The ancient Macedonian histories of Herodotus, Thucydides, and others say that the region was conquered by a royal family called the Argeadae or Temenidae. The Argeadae were from Argos, and the Temenidae were descendants of Temenos, both of which indicate that the royal family was descended from the Greek demigod Hercules.
