Arima Yoritsune

Japanese: 有馬頼永 - ありまよりとお

1822-1846 A daimyo in the late Edo period.
Born March 24, 1822. Son of Arima Yorinori. In 1830, he succeeded his father and became the 10th head of the Arima clan, lord of Kurume Domain in Chikugo (Fukuoka Prefecture). In preparation for the arrival of foreign ships, he called for great frugality in order to prepare for military preparations, had his retainers learn Western artillery in Edo, and promoted military reform. He died July 3, 1840. He was 25 years old. His pen names were Kiminari and Yukisen. His pen names included Kinshisai and Shikansai. His collection of poems and prose is "Shikansai's Writings."

文政5年3月24日生まれ。有馬頼徳(よりのり)の子。天保(てんぽう)15年父の跡をつぎ,筑後(ちくご)(福岡県)久留米(くるめ)藩主有馬家10代となる。外国船来航にそなえ,軍備のため大倹約を号令,藩士に江戸で西洋砲術をまなばせ,兵制改革をすすめた。弘化(こうか)3年7月3日死去。25歳。字(あざな)は君成,雪船。号は勤子斎,思艱斎(しかんさい)など。詩文集に「思艱斎遺稿」。
