Other notable sources of white marble include Vermont and Georgia in the United States, Macedonia in Yugoslavia, and Hualien County in Taiwan. Japanese white marble includes that from Miya City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, called "Arare" (Akiyoshi marble), and that from Hitachiota City, Ibaraki Prefecture, called "Kansui" (Kansui stone), but the production volume of either is insignificant today. Among marbles in the broad sense, the type that has been most highly valued since ancient times is the mesh-patterned, pebble-like marble called breccia in Italian and sarasa in Japanese.
