A large river in Eastern Siberia, Russia. Total length is 4,400 km. It originates at the western foot of the Baikal Mountains, flows northeast, becomes a large river about 7 km wide near Yakutsk, flows north and empties into the Laptev Sea in the Arctic Ocean. The river mouth forms a vast delta of about 30,000 ^km2 . The seasonal water level difference in the downstream reaches 28 m. The river freezes over from November to May in the upstream and from October to June in the downstream. The downstream is navigable from Ust-Kut, about 250 km northwest of Lake Baikal, and is the main transportation route in the Sakha Republic. It has many river ports and hydroelectric power plants, and the river basin produces gold, coal, natural gas, iron ore, etc.

ロシア，東部シベリアの大河。全長4400km。バイカル山脈西麓に発して北東流，ヤクーツク付近から幅約7kmの大河となり，北流して北極海のラプテフ海に注ぐ。河口は約３万km²の広大なデルタを形成。下流における季節的水位差は28mに達する。上流で11月から５月，下流で10月から６月間氷結。バイカル湖の北西約250kmのウスチクートから下流は航行可能で，サハ共和国の主要な輸送路となっている。河港，水力発電所を数多く有し，流域では金，石炭，天然ガス，鉄鉱石などを産する。
