...This book was written in the late Heian period and has been passed down by the Arakida clan, the chief priests of the Grand Shrine of Ise. It consists of two volumes. The first volume covers the period from the establishment of the Grand Shrine of Ise under Emperor Suinin to the time of Emperor Goichijo, and the second volume covers the period of Emperor Gosuzaku and Goreizei. It is one of the important books for examining the history of the Grand Shrine, and although some parts are unreliable, it is a fundamental book for examining the period when the Shikinen Sengu ceremony was established and the relationship between the Grand Shrine and the Imperial Court. At the end of the 9th century, Arakida Tokuo compiled and continued the work himself, after compiling the ancient records and texts that had been written up until that point. After that, the members of the clan, Okitada, Ujinaga, Nobutoshi, and Nobuki, continued the work. It is included in the Jingu section of the Gunsho Ruiju and the Jingu section of the Shinto Taikei. ... *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Arakida Norio" are listed below.
