A custom of the Indonesian villages (desas) in Java and other regions. Usually translated as mutual aid. In Javanese village society, there was a tradition of discussing and reaching a consensus on village meetings, and there was customary law that required holding memorial services, performing joint service, and electing a village elder as the chief in accordance with this agreement. If we look at this traditional village customary law principle statically, it is the principle of familism, and if we look at it dynamically, it is the principle of mutual aid (gotong royong). President Sukarno called the state principle of the Republic of Indonesia Panca Sila. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
