Kazamaura [village] - Kazamaura

Japanese: 風間浦[村] - かざまうら

A village in Shimokita District, northern Aomori Prefecture. Population 3,012 (1995). Located in the northwest of the Shimokita Peninsula, facing the Tsugaru Strait. Mountains such as Mt. Metaki and Mt. Shinohara come close to the coast, and there is very little arable land, with settlements found only along the coast. More than 95% of the area is covered by forests, and agriculture is poor due to the strong easterly winds (yamase). Fishing is the main industry, but when coastal fisheries are sluggish, especially when squid catches are poor, many people migrate to work, mainly to the Kanto and Hokkaido regions. Abalone farming began in 1979, and the area is focusing on raising abalone.

青森県北部，下北郡の村。人口3012(1995)。下北半島北西部に位置し，津軽海峡に臨む。目滝山，篠原岳などの山地が海岸まで迫り，耕地はごくわずかで，集落は海岸沿いにのみ分布する。山林が95％以上を占め，偏東風(やませ)が強いため農業は振るわない。漁業が基幹産業であるが，沿岸漁業の不振，とりわけイカ漁の不漁時には出稼ぎが多く，主として関東，北海道へ出ている。1979年からアワビの養殖が始められ，育てる漁業に力を入れている。
