Kasado Island

An island in the Seto Inland Sea in the southeastern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture. It belongs to Kudamatsu City. Between it and the Oshima Peninsula is Kasado Bay, and the coastline, with its many small bays, is beautifully landscaped. Together with Mount Taika on the Oshima Peninsula, it is part of the Seto Inland Sea National Park. Its area is 11.77 square kilometers. It is connected to Subana on the mainland by the Kasado Bridge, which was built in 1970 (Showa 45). The national forest that makes up half of the island's mountains is designated as a natural recreational forest, and it has been developed with public lodgings, a family travel village, a beach, and a marine promenade. Enoura is home to the Shin-Kasado Dock shipyard. Population 1,365 (2000).

山口県南東部、瀬戸内海にある島。下松(くだまつ)市に属する。大島半島との間に笠戸湾を抱き、小湾入の多い海岸線は風光に優れ、大島半島の太華山(たいかさん)とともに瀬戸内海国立公園の一部をなす。面積11.77平方キロメートル。1970年（昭和45）に架けられた笠戸大橋によって本土側の洲鼻(すばな)と結ばれた。島の山林のなかばを占める国有林は自然休養林に指定されており、国民宿舎、家族旅行村、海水浴場、海上遊歩道などが整備されている。江ノ浦には新笠戸ドックの造船所がある。人口1365（2000）。
