Value form - Wertform (German)

A term unique to "Capital," it is a form of expressing the value of a commodity. The price that indicates that an item is for sale (commodity) was originally a unit of a certain amount of gold as currency in each country, given names such as "yen" or "dollar," and the value of the commodity was expressed in various amounts of gold using this designation, and is considered to be the completed form of the expression of the value of a commodity. "Capital" analyzes the development of this value expression from its nascent to its completed form as an evolution from A. simple value form → B. overall or expanded value form → C. general value form → D. monetary form [price], and attempts to clarify the necessity of how money, which gives the shape of a price to a commodity and makes the commodity form possible, and which also makes the movement of commodities (buying and selling) possible, must be formed from within the commodity itself.

《資本論》特有の用語で，商品の価値を表現する形。物が売物(商品)であることを示すところの価格は，本来は，それぞれの国で貨幣としての金の一定量を単位にとり，それに〈円〉とか〈ドル〉とかの名称をつけ，この呼称でもって，商品の価値を大小さまざまの金の量で表現したものであり，商品の価値表現の完成した形と考えられる。《資本論》では，この価値表現の萌芽から完成形態への発達を，A.単純な価値形態→B.全体的な，または拡大された価値形態→C.一般的価値形態→D.貨幣形態[価格]への展開として分析することにより，商品に価格の形を与えて商品形態を成り立たせ，また商品の運動(売買)を成り立たせるところの貨幣が，いかにして商品そのものの内から形成されざるをえないか，その必然性を明らかにしようとした。
