Born on August 11, Tempō 2. Inspired by the shrinkage that occurs when rain-soaked woven fabric dries, he invented Awa Shijira weaving in 1866. Shijira weaving developed into a major local industry through the advertising and sales of Abe Jūbei and others. Died on June 30, 1919. Age 89. Born in Awa (Tokushima Prefecture).
