〘Noun〙 The act of selling amazake (sweet sake). Also, the person who sells it. It has been around since the Muromachi period, but it wasn't until the early modern period that it became widely sold as a drink for the common people. A peddler would carry a box in front with teacups and trays , a hanging lantern hanging from it, and a box in the back with a kettle of amazake on a pole. 〘名〙 甘酒を売り歩くこと。また、その人。室町時代からあるが、広く庶民の飲み物として売られたのは近世に入ってからで、前の箱に茶碗、盆などを入れ、掛行灯(かけあんどん)をつるし、後ろの箱に甘酒の釜を据えて、天秤棒(てんびんぼう)でかついで行商した。《季・夏》※咄本・座笑産(1773)あま酒「仲間、さむき夜に使に出、むかふから、あま酒うり来る」
