A religion founded by Mazdak during the Sassanid period. It preached the sharing of women and property, and the prohibition of eating meat, and has similarities with Zoroastrianism and Manichaeism. It gained influence during the reign of Kavad I (reigned 488-531), but was thoroughly suppressed toward the end of his reign. There is also a theory that it was influenced by Khurramism, an anti-Arab, anti-establishment religion in Iran in the 8th and 9th centuries. → Related article Mithraism Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
