…Fabre spent more than 40 years studying this insect, and the details of his research are mainly described in volumes 1 and 5 of “Insects”. The fact that this insect is abundant on the hills of Les Angles, across the Rhône River from Avignon, is written in “Avignon Animals”, compiled by Fabre himself and published by the Calbet Museum in Avignon in 1870. However, there are no sheep or donkeys kept in Les Angles now, and therefore no damselflies can be seen. However, recent research has shown that the beetle found in Les Angles and studied by Fabre is not a true dung beetle, but a similar, much smaller species of the same genus, S. typhon . …
