One of the ten great disciples of the Buddha (Shakyamuni). It is a transliteration of the Pali Anuruddha, and the correct translation is Anaritsuda. It is translated as Nyoi-ju. It is also transliterated as Aniruddha, and the original is presumed to be Aniruddha. It is translated as Nirvana. Years of birth and death unknown. Son of Amritodana, king of the Shakya people, and brother of Mahānāma. Anari fell asleep while the Buddha was preaching, and was scolded for becoming a monk. He vowed never to sleep in front of the Buddha again, and eventually went blind. However, as a result, he is said to have gained the ability to see through things, and is called the "best in heavenly eyes." At the first gathering, he contributed to the compilation of the "Zoichi Agama."
