Twins Mountain - Twins

Japanese: 両子山 - ふたごさん

A conical volcano that rises in the center of the Kunisaki Peninsula in northeastern Oita Prefecture. It is 720m above sea level and belongs to Kunisaki City. It is composed of pyroxene-hornblende andesite. The gentle slopes of the mountain foot continue to the sea, forming the circular coastline of the Kunisaki Peninsula. The view from the summit is vast, overlooking the mountains of Oita Prefecture as well as the Chugoku and Shikoku regions. On the middle slope is the ancient temple, Ryogo-ji, which is said to have been founded in 718. There are many natural forests, with evergreen broad-leaved trees such as hinoki cypress, camellia, and chinquapin, and deciduous broad-leaved trees such as wild cherry, azalea, and Chinese hackberry. It belongs to Setonaikai National Park.

大分県北東部，国東半島の中央にそびえる円錐形火山。標高 720m。国東市に属する。両輝石角閃石安山岩よりなる。山麓の緩斜面が海まで続き，国東半島の円形の海岸線を形成する。頂上からの展望は広大で，大分県の山々のほか，中国地方，四国地方まで見渡せる。中腹に養老2 (718) 年開山と伝えられる古刹，両子寺がある。自然林が多く，ハイノキ，ヤブツバキ，シイなどの常緑広葉樹，ヤマザクラ，ツツジ，エノキなどの落葉広葉樹が茂る。瀬戸内海国立公園に属する。
