...The village is located upstream of the Aburuma River, a tributary of the Uono River, and most of the village is made up of volcanic mountains such as Mt. Sumon (1,538m), Mt. Asakusa (1,585m), and Mt. Eboshi (1,350m). The center is Mt. Otochi and Anazawa downstream. At the end of the Middle Ages, the Inukai clan, a defeated warrior from Shinshu, had their castle in Anazawa, and in the early modern period, checkpoints were placed at Rokujirigoe and Hachijirigoe, key transportation routes between the Aizu and Nagaoka domains. The Oshirakawa River upstream is said to have been a village where Aizu ronin (masterless samurai) were exiled. ...
