Stucco is a decorative plaster used to finish the interior walls of buildings. It is made primarily from slaked lime, with clay powder, marble powder, sand, pigments, and other ingredients mixed in for reinforcement. It is easy to work with and hardens when dry. It was also widely used as a material for the statues and reliefs that decorate walls and ceilings. It has been used in the Orient since ancient times, and has been used extensively in Europe since the Renaissance.

建築の内壁仕上げに用いる化粧漆喰(しっくい)。ストゥッコともいう。消石灰を主原料とし，補強のために粘土粉，大理石粉，砂，顔料などを混ぜ練ったもの。加工しやすく，乾くと硬化する。壁や天井を飾る塑像や浮彫の材料としても多く使われた。オリエントでは古くから使用され，ヨーロッパではルネサンス期から盛んに用いられるようになった。
