An American copper company founded in 1895, and newly established in 1915 after the parent company was dissolved. In addition to Anaconda, Montana, the company has numerous mines in Chile, Mexico, Canada, and other countries, and engages in mining, smelting, and processing of non-ferrous metals such as copper. It is one of the world's largest copper companies, and is one of the three major copper companies along with Helps and Kennecott. The company was hit hard when its Chilean mines, which accounted for two-thirds of its copper production, were nationalized in 1971, and it was acquired by the oil company Atlantic Richfield Corporation (ARCO) in 1977. → Related Articles Anaconda | Butte Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
