hide and seek

Japanese:
hide and seek
A type of children's game. One person is chosen to be the Oni, and the others hide in places of their choice, and when a signal is given, the Oni searches for the person hiding. This game has been played since ancient times, and in the Kiyū Shōran, it is written that "the hidden game is Utsubo, and in Eiga Monogatari and other stories, the word warahage is what is called the modern-day Kakurenbo." This shows that what was originally called "Hidden Games" was called "Kakurenbo" (Hide and Seek) during the Bunsei period (1804-1830) as it is today.
