...The fact that Indians have had an interest in omens and divination since ancient times is evident from the fact that the Rig-Veda already contains a song on bird divination and mentions the interpretation of dreams. The Adbhuta-Brāhmaṇa, a ritual text, prescribes methods for calming bad omens. As knowledge of astronomy increased, omens related to the heavens came to play a central role.
