Alternate (year) bearing

Japanese: 隔年結果 - かくねんけっか（英語表記）alternate (year) bearing

In fruit trees, this refers to the alternation of years when the tree bears many fruits and years when it bears few fruits; years with many fruits are called "bearing years" or "good-bearing years," and years with few fruits are called "bare-bearing years" or "bare-bearing years." Bare-bearing years result in low yields. On the other hand, in bear-bearing years, the tree also bears many fruits, but they are small, have low sugar content, and are poorly colored. Therefore, alternate bearing can result in a significant drop in profits. If the tree loses leaves due to strong winds or experiences extremely low temperatures or dryness, the number of flowers the following year can decrease, resulting in alternate bearing, but this usually occurs due to the characteristics of fruit trees that suppress the formation of flower buds when the tree has a large number of fruits.

果樹で，果実がたくさんなる年と少ししかならない年とが交互に現れることをいい，果実数の多い年をなり年または表年，少ない年を不なり年または裏年という。不なり年は収量が低い。一方なり年も果実数は多いが，果実は小型で糖含量が低く，着色も悪い。そのため，隔年結果が起こると収益は著しく低下する。強風のために落葉したり極端な低温や乾燥に遭遇したりすると，翌年の花数が減って隔年結果となる場合もあるが，普通は，果実数が多いと花芽の形成が抑制されるという果樹の特性のために起こる。
