Ugly man of Ashihara - Ugly man of Ashihara

...The name means "Great Lord of the Country," and indicates his position as the leader of the Kunitsukami (indigenous gods) in contrast to Amaterasu Okami, the chief of the Amatsukami (gods of Takamagahara). Okuninushi also has other names, such as Oonamuchi no Mikoto, Ashihara no Shiko, Yachihoko no Kami, and Utsukunitama no Kami. This is based on the fact that this god was formed as a collection and integration of many deities, and as a result, the Okuninushi myth contains quite a variety of elements.
