Antagonism

Antagonism occurs when two types of microorganisms are cultured at the same time and the growth of one of them is inhibited. Research into antagonism is said to have begun with J. Tyndall (1876) and Pasteur (1877). In the 1900s, several people extracted substances that exhibited antagonism, and mycophenolic acid was reported, but no thought was given to using them as medicines.
