…Jiaozi is a term meaning a certificate showing the delivery of monetary goods. The use of bills of exchange became popular in China during the Tang Dynasty. In Chang'an during the Tang Dynasty, there were businesses called qifupu or kibo that would accept other people's copper coins, gold, silver, silk, and other monetary items and issue bills of exchange. These bills were used for transactions within the city, and there was also a lot of exchange of bills of exchange (bian ka, bian sen, and fui sen) between Chang'an and major cities in the provinces.
