[Causes of the War]
The Pacific War, along with the Manchurian Incident and the Second Sino-Japanese War, is collectively referred to as the Fifteen Year War, and was the third stage of the Fifteen Year War and an important component of World War II. In recent years, the term "Asia-Pacific War" has also been proposed, given the nature of the war. Both the Manchurian Incident and the Second Sino-Japanese War were wars of aggression by Japan against China, but contrary to the military's expectation of a quick end to the Second Sino-Japanese War, strong resistance from the Chinese side based on an anti-Japanese national united front led to a protracted and bogged-down conflict.
