[Price formation by private companies] The main price formation principles for private companies that aim to make profits are the marginal principle and the full cost principle. The marginal principle states that a company can maximize profits by producing in quantities where the increase in revenue from an additional increase in production (marginal revenue) is equal to the increase in expenses (marginal cost). If marginal revenue exceeds marginal cost, the profits a company earns will increase by expanding production, and will decrease if the opposite is true.
