[Nucleophilic substitution reaction]
A reaction in which a nucleophilic reagent (Nu:) attacks a positively charged carbon atom of a substrate and replaces it with a bonded atom or group is called a nucleophilic substitution reaction. The atom or group that is displaced is called a leaving group (abbreviated as L:). The leaving group leaves the carbon along with the bond electron pair, while the nucleophilic reagent provides electrons to create a new electron pair.
