During the Bunka era (1804-18), Yamada Kazanshi (another name for Chikamatsu Tokusaburo) wrote a joruri play for Takemoto Jutayu based on the long story "Morning Glory" by the lecturer Shiba Shibasou (often called So), but it was never performed. In 1811 (Bunka 8), a ten-part reading book "Morning Glory Diary" with illustrations by Ukoen Ryuro was completed and became widely read and loved, so it was later adapted into a kabuki play titled "Namasha Kazan Nikki" at a side theater in Horie City, Osaka....
