…The name Trevi comes from the fact that three streets converge in the square in front of the fountain. It was founded in 19 BC by C. Agrippa, who drew water from a spring about 20 km outside the city, and in Roman times it was called Acqua Vergine. Construction of the current fountain began in 1732, after a design competition, based on a design by Nicolà Salvi (1697-1751), and was completed in 1762. …
