An early example is the Bonmo-kyo Sutra, a treasure of the Shoso-in Repository, which has landscapes painted on it, and the endpapers of the Heike-nokyo Sutra are famous for their splendor. (2) Paper used to connect the cover and contents of a book in a Western-style binding.
