Also, a cloth product for protecting the heel called an "akutokake" (also called "kohabaki") fully covered the instep, and could be considered a type of instep protector. It was often made of navy blue or black cotton, had a lining, and was often sewn with a mountain-shaped pattern to reinforce the cloth and keep the instep warm. …
