It is the largest island in the Arctic Ocean archipelago, belonging to the Franklin District of the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Canada. It has a low-lying, undulating topography, and faces the mainland across Coronation Bay and Amundsen Bay. It was discovered by T. Simpson in 1838. There is a joint Canadian-American weather station.
