Kochidani

Japanese: 香落渓 - こおちだに

A valley that spans Nabari City in the mid-west of Mie Prefecture and Soni Village in Nara Prefecture. The Shorenji River, a tributary of the Nabari River, carved the valley into the andesite region of the Muro Volcanic Group. For about 12 kilometers upstream from Shorenji Dam, columnar joints form cliffs 100 meters high, and the valley is known as the Yabakei of Kansai. There are hiking trails with beautiful fresh greenery and autumn leaves, and there are hotels, guesthouses, hot springs, etc. on the shores of Shorenji Lake. It is part of Muro Akame Aoyama Quasi-National Park. There is a bus service from Kintetsu Railway Nabari Station to Kouachi Bridge.

Kouachi Valley

三重県中西部の名張(なばり)市と奈良県曽爾(そに)村にまたがる渓谷。名張川の支流青蓮寺(しょうれんじ)川が室生火山群(むろうかざんぐん)の安山岩地帯を刻んだ渓谷で、青蓮寺ダムから上流約12キロメートルの間、柱状節理が100メートルもの絶壁をなし、関西の耶馬渓(やばけい)といわれる。新緑、紅葉が美しいハイキングコースで、青蓮寺湖畔にはホテルや民宿村、温泉などがある。室生赤目青山国定公園(むろうあかめあおやまこくていこうえん)の一部。近畿日本鉄道名張駅から香落橋までバスの便がある。
