A general term (illustration) for crustaceans belonging to the Galatheidae family, a type of hermit crab that is intermediate between shrimps and crabs. Its external shape is more similar to that of a shrimp, and it is named after its folded abdomen, but it is also called Galatea from its basic genus name, Galathea . Its body is flat dorsally and ventrally, with many transverse stripes. Its rostrum is often large and triangular, but can also be spine-like. It has long claw legs and three pairs of walking legs followed by small legs for cleaning the gill chambers. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
