Duchy of Aquitaine

Japanese: アキテーヌ公国 - あきてーぬこうこく
Duchy of Aquitaine

...Another characteristic of this region is that, due to its location adjacent to the Iberian Peninsula, it was constantly influenced by Islamic and Mozarabic cultures. In the mid-11th century, the Duchy of Aquitaine, with its capital at Poitiers, annexed the Duchy of Gascony, which held territory south of the Garonne River, and reunited the region from the Loire to the Pyrenees. The Duchy prospered for the next century, and the Duke of Aquitaine's influence surpassed that of his feudal overlord, the King of France, and at his court, a refined and hedonistic aristocratic culture, represented by the troubadours who sang of courtly love, flourished precociously, providing a striking contrast to the rough and strict atmosphere of the Capetian court.
