Akizuki seed tree - Akizuki Tane Tatsu
Year of death: October 17, 1904 (Meiji 37)
Year of birth: Tenpo 4.10.17 (1833.11.28)
He was the heir to the Takanabe Domain in Hyuga Province (Miyazaki Prefecture) at the end of the Edo period. Commonly known as Masataro, he was appointed Ukyo no jo afterwards. Born as the third son of the domain's lord Tanenari, he studied under Shioya Toin in Edo. At the age of 30, while still living in a room, he became the magistrate of the Shogunate's Academy, and the following year, in 1863, he also became a junior councilor. This was an unusual promotion, as the Akizuki family was an outside daimyo with a stipend of 27,000 koku. In the same year, he became the heir to his elder brother Tanenari. In 1864, he resigned from his position. In 1867, he was appointed junior councilor, but at the advice of his subordinates who believed that he no longer had any power in the Shogunate, he did not serve, and resigned after six months. After the Meiji Restoration, in 1868, he served as a councilor in the new government, a tutor to Emperor Meiji (until 1869), chairman of the Public Assembly, university superintendent, junior councilor in the House of Councillors, councilor in the House of Peers, and other positions. He was also a man of letters who enjoyed calligraphy and painting.
