A town in Minamisaku District, eastern Nagano Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Chikuma River, and the Koumi Line runs through it. As it is a highland, cold region, highland vegetables are cultivated, and flowers (persimmons) and mushrooms are also produced, and livestock is also raised.
