Aki Kokujin Ikki

...This refers to the regional alliances that local feudal lords made during the Nanboku-cho and Muromachi periods, for the purpose of responding to unrest in the central and local regions and securing their sovereignty, by concluding treaties or other means. (1) These were organized from above with a certain political intent (such as the Minamikyushu Kokujin Ikki of 1377 (Tenju 3/Eiwa 3), which was organized by Kyushu Tandai Imagawa Ryōshun as a military force to subjugate the Southern Court forces), (2) these were military opposition to newly appointed shugo (such as the Shinano kokujin uprising in 1400 (Oei 7) in which the Shinano kokujin fought against the shugo Ogasawara clan, and the Aki Kokujin Ikki described below), and (3) the Yamashiro Kuni Ikki, in which the forces of the Hatakeyama clan and the kokujin class took control of the country. All of these were formed by external political forces, and disintegrated when their intent was achieved or when the shugo daimyo's control of the territory progressed....
