Year of death: October 17, 11 (December 7, 1634) Year of birth: Eiroku 11 (1568) A feudal lord in the early Edo period. First lord of Iwakidaira Domain in Mutsu Province (Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture). His father was Iecho and his mother was the daughter of Matsudaira Tadanaga. Born in Mikawa. Nicknamed Kin'ichiro. Samanosuke. Served Tokugawa Ieyasu together with his father. Participated in the attack on Aizu in 1600. After his father was killed in battle with the Western Army at Fushimi Castle, Masanaga inherited his estate of 20,000 koku in Sanuki, Kazusa Province (Chiba Prefecture) in the same year. During the Siege of Osaka (1614, 15), he served as the caretaker of Edo Castle, and was involved in matters related to the Shogunate's abolition of fiefs, such as the taking over of Yanagawa Castle in Chikugo Province (1620) and the seizure of Kumamoto Castle (1632). During this time, he was transferred to Iwakidaira with 70,000 koku in 1622. He was particularly notable for his achievements in reforestation. He died in Edo. There is also a theory that Masanaga was Ieyasu's illegitimate son. (Hasegawa Seiichi) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
