Aguchi Shrine

…Until the end of the Edo period, the town of Sakai was limited to the area inside the moat (Doi River), which corresponds to the city's core (the present old town area). In the old town, there are Aguchi Shrine, an ancient shrine listed in the Engishiki and a branch shrine of Sumiyoshi Shrine, and Honganji Sakai Betsuin, where the Sakai Prefectural Office was located from the beginning of the Meiji period to 1861. With the opening of the Nankai Koya Line in 1900 and the Hanwa Line in 1930, urbanization began in the eastern part of the old town. …
