Qarluq

...This Turkic stone inscription is the oldest known example of the Turkish language today.
[The Uyghur Era]
The Uighurs (written as Huihu or Huihu in China), who took control of Mongolia in place of the Turks, also brought under their control the Qarluq people, who were Turkic tribes living in the Central Asian steppes, and as a successor state to the Turks, had close ties with the Chinese Tang dynasty in both peace and war, but were destroyed in the mid-9th century by an attack from the Kyrgyz people, also Turkic tribes. At this time, the Uighurs, who lost their country, abandoned their homeland in Mongolia and moved from the northern border of China (said to number more than 100,000) to the Tianshan and Tarim Basin areas in the west (said to number 100,000 to 300,000), where they began new lives in Ganzhou, Bishbalik, Gaochang, Kucha, and the areas of the Chu River and Talas River.
