Academy of San Luca - Academy of San Luca

...This was an organization of architects, sculptors, and painters, who had been scattered among various guilds, who came together with the awareness that they were the bearers of the three fields of plastic arts, with drawing as their common foundation. It contributed to the liberation of artists from the constraints of the guilds, which had a professional character, and to the establishment of their social status. In Rome, the Accademia di San Luca was then founded in 1593 under the direction of painter F. Zuccari. In addition to these, there were countless private art schools bearing the name of academia in Italy in the 16th and 17th centuries, but the most influential of these was the Accademia degli Incamminati of the Carracci family, which was founded in Bologna around 1586.
