Clothing designed to allow pilots to fully demonstrate their skills in the aircraft. Also called an aviation suit. In 1903, the Wright brothers made their first successful flight, but early flight clothing consisted of ordinary sportswear or military uniforms. In the 1910s, flight suits began to appear, such as windproof goggles and leather half-coats used by automobile drivers at the time, or improved factory work overalls with deeper seams or made of leather. When airplanes became important weapons in World War I, they were required to be operated at the limit of their performance, and the military began to develop flight suits to meet this demand.
