Red-footed booby

A seabird of the family Pelecanidae. It has a total length of about 70 cm and a wingspan of 79 cm. It lives in warm waters around the world and eats flying fish and squid. It is nocturnal, nests in trees, and lays a single egg. In Japan, it breeds in the southern part of the Ryukyu Islands.

鳥綱ペリカン目カツオドリ科の海鳥。全長約70センチメートル、翼開長79センチメートル。世界の暖海域にすみ、トビウオやイカを食べる。夜行性で、樹上に営巣し、1卵を産む。日本では南西諸島南部で繁殖する。
