A seabird of the family Pelecanidae. It has a total length of about 70 cm and a wingspan of 79 cm. It lives in warm waters around the world and eats flying fish and squid. It is nocturnal, nests in trees, and lays a single egg. In Japan, it breeds in the southern part of the Ryukyu Islands.
