Order Perciformes, family Acanthariidae. It grows to about 20cm in total length. It is similar to the Acanthariidae, but can be distinguished by the single brown diagonal line below and in front of the eye and the lack of a black spot at the base of the pectoral fin. It is found along the coasts of Japan south of Aomori Prefecture, and inhabits eelgrass beds. It is edible. スズキ目ウミタナゴ科。全長約 20cmになる。ウミタナゴに似るが,眼の前下方の褐色斜線が1本であること,胸鰭の基部に黒色点がないことで区別される。青森県以南の日本各地の沿岸に分布し,アマモ場に棲息する。食用となる。
