A fish of the family Inimiidae. Generally speaking, the term "scorpionfish" refers to this species. It grows to 25cm in length. Its dorsal fin has sharp spines and a poison gland that causes severe pain when stung. It has no scales and its skin is very elastic. It is found from central Honshu to the East China Sea, and lives on the seabed. There is considerable variation in body color and markings among individuals, and they can be black, brown, milky white, red, or yellow. They produce pelagic eggs that separate from the rest.
