Duke of Wei

…After the defeat of the rebellion, he was captured, but escaped, and after a long period of exile, he became a staff officer for the bandit general Zhai Rang of Wagang (Henan Province). In 617, he led his Wagang troops to occupy Xingluocang (Henan Province) and open it widely to the people, expanding his power, but this led to a serious relationship with Zhai Rang, and he eventually killed Zhai Rang and took full control, calling himself the Duke of Wei. As a result, he saw many rebel groups join him one after another, and attracted attention as a force that could replace the Sui Dynasty, but he was defeated by his arch enemy Wang Shichong and submitted to Li Yuan (later Emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty) in Chang'an. …
