〘 noun 〙 During the Edo period, temples and shrines in various provinces, with the permission of the temple and shrine magistrate, collected donations of money and goods from the general public of their own free will for construction and repair. ⇔ Gomen-kanka. ※Gomen-kanka Tenmei Shusei - 27th, August 1766 (Meiwa 3) "Subsidies for the repair of temples and shrines in various provinces, and when making a tour of the related donations, from now on, the temple and shrine magistrate must bring a one-coin seal and make a tour of the towns and towns within the imperial lands, private temples and shrines."
