…In 1978, he bought the St. Louis Dispatch, which had gone bankrupt and was being auctioned, and merged it with the St. Louis Post, run by JA Dillon, to edit and manage the evening paper, The Post-Dispatch. As a supporter of the people, he repeatedly campaigned against corruption and the wrongdoings of large corporations, and tried new journalistic methods, making it the city's leading newspaper. In 1983, he bought the New York newspaper The World from J. Gould for $346,000, and created a newspaper with a huge circulation and influence through attacks on the tyranny of large corporations such as Morgan, and a $100,000 fund campaign to build a pedestal for the Statue of Liberty, which marked the beginning of a major change in the newspaper structure throughout the United States. Having suffered many hardships as an immigrant, he naively believed in the ideals of democracy and hoped for the realization of social justice. …
