Japanese: 亀山の仇討物 - かめやまのあだうちもの

It is a type of puppet theater, Kabuki, and Kyogen. The story of how the brothers Hanzo and Genzo Ishii defeated their father's enemy, Mizuemon Akabori, for the first time in 28 years in Ise Kameyama on May 9, 1701 (Genroku 14), was famously known as "Genroku Soga." Joruri dramatizations of this work included Roadside Hero Vengeance (1 act, first performed at the Takemotoza in 1702; some say it was written by Chikamatsu Monzaemon) in Osaka, Roadside Kameyama Banashi (8 acts, first performed at the Hokusei Theater in July 1778) by Chikamatsu Hanji, Vengeance at Udonga Kameyama (1794) by Shiba Shibaso, and Old Patterns of Kameyama Dye (11 acts, first performed at the Takemotoza in October 1794) by Sanfuyuan Jizai in Edo.

人形浄瑠璃･歌舞伎狂言の一系統。1701年(元禄14)5月9日に伊勢亀山で石井半蔵･源蔵の兄弟が父の仇赤堀水右衛門を28年ぶりに討ち果たした話は〈元禄曾我〉といわれて有名だった。これを脚色した浄瑠璃は，大坂では《道中評判敵討》(1段。1702年竹本座初演。近松門左衛門作という説がある)，近松半二作《道中亀山噺》(8段。1778年7月北西の芝居初演)，司馬芝叟作《敵討優曇華亀山（かたきうちうきぎのかめやま）》(1794年10月竹本岡太夫座初演)，江戸では三冬庵自在作《往昔模様亀山染（むかしもようかめやまぞめ）》(11段。
